How to Use Katam Powder for Hair dying
Katam is usually added in henna to tone down the reddish colour of henna into rich brown and the shade you get will mostly depend on the ratio of katam and henna. usually 50% henna with 50% katam brings a rich brown colour on hair and covers the grey.
-Prepare the henna paste, Mix henna with warm water, or warm lemon juice, and allow the paste to sit from 2-12 hours (as this depends on the dye release of your henna powder chosen). Add enough liquid to make a paste the consistency of pancake batter.
-Once henna is ready, mix your katam with warm water and allow to sit for 10-15 minutes. Mix these two together. The more katam you add the darker the brown.
-Apply the paste to your hair by sections starting from the back and moving forward. Make sure you wear gloves, as it will stain your hands.
-Wrap your hair and allow to sit for 1 to 3 hours.
-Rinse or wash your paste out
-This process is called a one-step process.
- If you are after a dark shade of brown katam can also be used after dyeing with henna first and then applying katam paster for few hours.
Precautions Before Use:
Do not apply to hair that has been chemically dyed in the last 2 weeks.
Always patch test on a small strand to check the final colour.
Wear gloves during application to avoid staining hands.
